Sondage Beyond

The affiliated circle of producers, publishers, studios, and archives who know how to work from a Sondage archive without compromising it.

Sondage Beyond is the network through which a Senior Fellow can carry a finished archive into the world — into a book, a film, a recorded portrait, a scholarly study, or an institutional home — while keeping the sovereignty the archive was built to hold. A Sovereign Archive is the strongest input there is for such work, and the finished record belongs entirely to the Fellow who made it. Beyond exists so that the people invited to work from that record are people who understand what it requires.

For Senior Fellows

When you are ready to make something from your archive, Beyond is where those conversations begin. Its affiliates have shown that they know how to draw from a certified human archive without flattening it, extracting from it, or compromising the commitments under which it was made. The archive is yours, the project is yours, and the agreement you enter is your own. Beyond simply helps you find people worth working with.

For prospective affiliates

Sondage Beyond is open to producers, publishers, studios, technologists, and archival institutions that want to work from Sondage-certified archives and can demonstrate they understand the Standard's commitments. Affiliation is earned rather than bought. It involves a short workshop that demonstrates working understanding of those commitments, an annual registry fee, and agreement to the terms of affiliation.

Affiliates are Sondage Beyond affiliated. They are not partners of Sondage, and affiliation is not an endorsement of any single project. It is a signal to Senior Fellows that an organization understands what a sovereign archive is and how to honor it.
